The second event in the Mind Over Mountain Adventure Racing Series took place on Saturday in Duncan with over 70 solos, teams of two and teams of four in the running.
Whistlers Team Giddy Up (Lina Augaitis, Nick Bladen, Adrian Morency and Meg Rose) took part, finishing 14 th overall and first in the Team of Four co-ed category with a time of four hours, six minutes and 30 seconds.
The events were kayaking, mountain biking, and trekking/trail running with a bit of orienteering thrown in.
This was only the teams second adventure race, including the first MOMAR race of the season. The group is now looking ahead to the two-day Sea 2 Summit race from Lions Bay to Whistler in September.
"Weve been doing a bit of training, but now were looking to be more serious and spending our weekends training," said Rose, one of two Australians on the team.
According to Rose the team is still finding its strengths.
"Probably the running part is our strongest event, were not very good at the paddling. Weve also got to improve on the biking, the bike section (at Duncan) was really technical and we saw that we needed to work on that as well."
All of the team members have competed triathlons, and decided to branch out to adventure racing as something different. "We started out thinking this would be something fun to do as a change, but its really addictive being in this races and the training has been great. Theres so much teamwork involved," said Rose.
