As Whistler Blackcomb prepares to open for another season of riding, Whistler transit is expanding its service to ensure you'll always have a ride to the lift.
Whistler's early-winter transit schedule kicks in on Saturday, Nov. 16 with the seasonal return of the free route 4 Marketplace shuttle and additional service on other local routes. (You can find all of the early-winter extra service trip times listed in the current Rider's Guide.)
Three weeks later, riders will have even more options when full winter service resumes on Saturday, Dec. 7—two weeks earlier than usual, thanks to a 500-service hour expansion. "This means there will be more frequent buses earlier to match the start of the busy ski season when ridership begins to peak," explained a BC Transit release.
The expansion will also result in eight additional trips for the route 10 Valley Express, which serves customers travelling between neighbourhoods north and south of Whistler Village, removing the need to transfer buses in the village. Routes 20 Cheakamus, 21 Spring Creek and 30 Alpine will also see minor schedule adjustments as a result of the service increase.
As Whistler Mayor Jack Crompton explained in the release, "Getting more people on transit is a significant priority" for the Resort Municipality of Whistler as it strives to reduce the community's climate footprint. "The Route 10 Valley Express has proven to be an efficient and welcome route for people looking to minimize time spent commuting and help get more people on the bus. These additional transit service hours help move us in the right direction when it comes to reducing our carbon emissions," he said.
