The 13 th Annual Whistler Valley Trail Run is hoping to raise even more money from entries and T-shirt sales for local youth charities this year, with the co-operation of the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation. Last year’s run raised $2,500 for the foundation, and organizers hope to raise at least $3,000 this year.
The run takes place on Sunday, May 30 starting in Parking Lot 2 at 9 a.m. and finishing in Skiers Plaza at the base of Whistler Mountain. Once again there will be both 10 km and 5 km courses. The 5 km participants will run or walk from the parking lot around Lost Lake before returning to the village. The 10 km runners will continue on from Lost Lake and do a loop around the Whistler Golf Course.
Advance registration is available at the Mountain Adventure Centre in the Pan Pacific Lodge. You can also register on the day of the race at the MAC from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
The entry fee is $25 in advance on $30 on the day of the race, minus $5 if you are a member of B.C. Athletics. T-shirts are available for $15. Make the cheque out to the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation.
The list of draw prizes for participants includes Nike footwear from the Mountain Adventure Centre and a weekend at the Residence Inn by Mariott.
Back for a second year is the Teddy Bear Trot, where kids will run with their favourite stuffed animals on a short course around the Carleton Lodge. Parents are welcome to run with their children, and all participants will earn prizes.
Once again all of the kids will wear bib number one, because they are all champions for taking part.
Dogs are welcome to run in this event as long as they are leashed and well-behaved. Unfortunately the routes are not wheelchair accessible.
If you can help out as a volunteer this year, organizers are looking for people to assist with the course marshalling, water stations, registration and post-race awards.
