A group of local volleyball players finished third in the annual Vancouver Sports Spring Sizzler beach co-ed volleyball tournament on May 19.

Local volleyball player Jas Michalski, sponsored by Black’s Pub, Wildwood Lodge and Sportstop, put together an international foursome for the tournament.

Two of the team members, still jet-lagged after a 20-hour flight from Perth, Australia, got right into it, and the team made it through the morning round-robin qualifier to the finals.

Michalski’s jump serve and former Whistler resident Al Broom’s blocks at the net kept the team competitive in the afternoon, and the team moved on to the semi-finals. After losing the semis, they came back in the consolation round to end the day in third place overall.

Michalski will now team up with regular partner Tim Bonnell for the B.C. Volleyball Association two-on-two beach season.
