The Whistler Winterhawks Pee Wee A hockey club headed north with a little extra hardware after going undefeated en route to winning the Squamish Minor Hockey Association's (SMHA) Thanksgiving tournament.

Whistler won all of its games at the five-day event, culminating in a 5-1 championship tilt against Cloverdale on Monday, Oct. 13.

The Winterhawks opened up a 4-0 lead after the first period and cruised to the victory. Jack Morrow opened the scoring at 2:48 of the first period and Kai Daniels added a goal two minutes later. Austin Ross then scored two straight to close out the period. Cloverdale cut the lead to three in the second, but Daniels potted his second of the night in the third period for a little insurance for Whistler.

Ross and Daniels had four points, while Owen Gilmore added three assists. Winterhawks head coach Cam McIvor said his team's skills with the puck helped secure the win.

"Our team played their puck possession game and controlled most of the game," he said. "The outcome was determined by puck possession."

McIvor praised the tournament organizers, complimenting the great organization and fun atmosphere at the event.

He added that the team is undefeated in placement rounds for the regular season and is hoping to continue the hot streak.

"We're focusing on our placement rounds and we've set a goal to move up in placement," he said, noting the team is currently in Tier III. "We're working hard towards that goal."

The Winterhawk's run in Squamish also included: a 4-3 win over the Hollyburn Huskies on Thursday, Oct. 9; a 4-1 win over West Vancouver on Friday, Oct. 10; and wins over North Delta (5-3) and Coquitlam (8-1) on Sunday, Oct. 12.
