On Dec. 8 the following e-mail message was received (via satellite) from Irene Whitney aboard the Darwin Sound: "A Vancouver sail boat, Darwin Sound sailed by Irene and Al Whitney of Whistler, today reached Cape Horn and had a visit ashore. They were accompanied by their two children and on this leg of their voyage by a group of Americans and Canadians, including Vancouver's Dr. Michael Smith and his companion Elizabeth Raines, as well as crew Jodi Preto from West Vancouver. Darwin Sound left Vancouver in 1991 and has since sailed as far east as Turkey and as far north as Spitsbergen in the high Arctic. Following four more months in Chile, the Whitney's are bound for New Zealand."
