Who will lead?

Seven candidates for mayor of Whistler and last five councillor candidates profiled

It’s a numbers game.

There are nine days left to the municipal election (on Nov. 19); seven candidates for mayor of Whistler; 17 candidates for six council seats; and one all-important duty facing everyone: vote.

In the following pages the seven Whistler mayoral candidates and the five remaining candidates for Whistler council are profiled (12 council candidates were profiled in last week’s paper; those profiles are available on our website).

The candidates were all e-mailed the same questions and asked for a written response or to sit down with a reporter for an interview by Oct. 28. Approximately half the candidates submitted written responses and half did interviews. The interviews were recorded, transcribed and – to the best of our abilities – edited to reflect the candidate’s response and fit within the 700-word limit.

While we hope this format helps voters make their decisions on Nov. 19, it is only one forum. We urge you to take advantage of the remaining opportunities where you can meet the candidates. The Whistler Forum is hosting a session for the mayoralty candidates on Sunday, Nov. 13 at 2 p.m. at MY Millennium Place and Whistler cultural organizations are organizing an all candidates meeting specifically on arts and culture Monday, Nov. 14 at 5:30 p.m. at MY Millennium Place.

Many candidates also have websites that voters can visit to learn more about their positions, and all candidates have telephones and e-mail.

Previous stories on candidates, published at the time they announced their candidacies, are also available on our website, , under the "Civic Elections 2005" button in the top left corner of the opening page.

Finally, take the time to vote on Nov. 19.
