Well, it's finally here: the final full weekend of Whistler Presents at Whistler Olympic Plaza.

It's been a memorable year — some artists were more popular than others but everyone can agree on one thing —it was all FREE!

Naturally, when anything of such great value comes to an end, one can expect a grieving period. But don't let it get to you, folks, because there's more to come and always next year.

In the meantime, here's the rundown of who's playing the plaza for the Labour Day weekend. All shows begin at 8:30 p.m.

Friday, September 1

Vince Vaccaro Band

The evening's headliner is the quintessential Victoria boy: heady acoustic-driven rock informed by a surfer's philosophy and a quasi-hippie view of reality. He sings about mountains and chasing good times, and he exudes the kind of charm — in real life and on stage — that you'd expect from someone who does.

Blackie and the Rodeo Kings

Yes, Americana has been embraced by dozens of Canadian acts but few have grasped the road-weary, love-torn realities of the genre the way that Blackie and the Rodeo Kings have. Needless to say, they have heart...and compelling songs to boot.

Saturday, September 2

The Boom Booms

A jambalaya of soul, Latin and funk grooves topped with some good ol' fashion rock and roll for good measure. The Boom Booms were founded as a house band for an East Vancouver salsa club and it's their God-given (or, at least, self-imposed) mission to make you move. Please oblige them.

Kytami

The one-time Whistler local and former Delhi 2 Dublin member now makes captivating fiddle-driven music that straddles the boundaries between hip-hop, electronica and world music. Please welcome her back home, if you don't mind.

Sunday, September 3

Emmanuel Jal

Jal is a Sudanese-born former child soldier, enlisted as a young boy to fight for the Sudan People's Liberation Army. The experience eventually inspired his music, which is dedicated to pursuit of unity, not just in his homeland but also all over the world. You can expect some declarations of love and some handholding amongst the crowd. Enjoy.
