Who said summer was over? It's a big week for music in Whistler, so we thought we'd give you the run down of who's playing where this week.
Some will make you dance. Some will make your head spin. Others will make you fall in love with their beautiful blonde singer.
Try to guess who's who!
She Stole My Beer
Saturday, 7:30 p.m.Whistler Olympic PlazaThis vestige of Whistler's glory days returns for another free performance at Whistler Olympic Plaza, this time for the GranFondo celebrations.
They hardly need an introduction: They boogie when they need to and will send you into fits of compulsive dancing within minutes of hitting the stage. The plaza lawn is certain to be jammed. The Paperboys are opening.
Baauer
Tuesday, 10 p.m.Maxx FishThe 22-year-old Brooklyn-based producer, DJ and leader of the emerging "trap" music scene has earned significant buzz for his recent single "Harlem Shake," a disorienting, compulsively listenable banger that sounds like Satan himself had mashed up his favourite house tracks with some malevolent hip hop track. He's in town at the behest of Mat the Alien for Really Good Tuesdays, along with the American producer UZ.
The Jezabels
Thursday, Sept. 13, 9 p.m.Longhorn SaloonAfter they absolutely slayed the Longhorn in April, the moody Melbourne-based indie-rock four-piece are returning to the venue for what will certainly be a sold-out and very energetic set.
Already the darlings of Triple J in Australia, they've earned a respectable North American following this summer, with stops at nearly all the major festivals.
Hey Ocean! and the Belle Game
Thursday, Sept. 13, 9 p.m.GLCTwo of Vancouver's rising indie-pop stars are playing a double-header on the same night as the Jezabels. Hmmmm... could be a battle of the venues.
Hey Ocean! will be playing cuts from their new album IS before charting across Canada for a two-month tour. The orchestral, Arcade Fire-indebted Belle Game are making their Whistler debut, playing songs from their upcoming album Ritual Tradition Habit.
