Williams Lake victim known in Whistler

The man shot and killed by an RMCP officer in Williams Lake on Sunday, Aug. 13 was a familiar face in Whistler. According to the Vancouver Sun, Donald Dwayne Lewis, 43, was living in a squat near Wedge Mountain.

According to the Vancouver Sun, Donald Dwayne Lewis, 43, was living in a squat near Wedge Mountain. He was an American citizen without legal status in Canada.

Lewis was shot last week after an officer responded to a report of a man camping illegally near McLeese Lake.

Whistler police also knew the victim. Lewis was charged with assaulting an officer in 2005. The officer was trying to arrest him on an immigration warrant.

Delta police are investigating the Williams Lake shooting.
