WMN Studio in Function Junction is launching its new live video stage with music.

"Solo artist Luc Roach has booked it to record one of his songs," says owner Steve Clark.

The stage is complete with television broadcast technology, including several cameras, cabling, adapters for different video formats, a robotic PTZ camera, and joystick controller that allows users to make the production of a live video more efficient.

"We want to sell this to the community and get them involved on a fun level, where it won't be expensive to produce something," Clark says.

Live gaming is an example of what he'd like to bring in; with the pilot for a Go Fish! tournament currently planned."It's one-on-one competition card game combined with gaming competitions with food in a cooking show," he says.

"Go Fish! paired with fish and chips!"

Clark hopes the stage will now attract TV and web ideas, standups and other performers and rehearsals for performers who want to tape themselves before going live.

Quest Writer's Conference dates announced

Next year's Writer's Conference is already being planned after a successful inaugural year in 2015 that had fiction writers Joy Harjo, Alicia Ostriker, Greg Orr, Oliver de la Paz and Rebecca Brown.

"I would be delighted to have them back here any time, as each of them offered extraordinary generosity and brilliance to their workshops," says conference organizer Jessamyn Smyth. "We're also extending invitations to new people who have similarly generous teaching spirits as well as writerly gifts, and who would bring a lot of excitement to the conference."

Our focus will continue to be international with a regional emphasis.

Harjo won the $100,000 Wallace Stevens award for her poetry in September.

The 2016 event takes place on June 12 to 19. Applications will open in late December.

Quest Artist in Residence talk

Vancouver-Trinidadian artist Lauren Marsden, the latest artist-in-residence at Quest University Canada in Squamish, is giving a talk on her work.

Marsden's media artworks will include clips from her recent films and performances.

Inspired by the possibility of experiencing "ecstatic time" through moving images, she experiments with slow-motion cinematography, animated GIFs, filmic loops and improvisations.

Quest's program brings creative artists to the university for campus residencies.

The event is free and takes place on Friday, Nov. 27 at 7 p.m.
