WMSC skiers on Team Canada for Whistler Cup 

Two members of the Whistler Mountain Ski Club will represent Canada at the upcoming Whistler Cup international juvenile ski races after strong results at the President's Choice Canadian K2 Championships in Ontario last week.

Blake Ramsden and Emma King will don the Canadian colours at the Whistler Cup, April 9-11, as well as participate in a special training camp held prior to the races with national level coaches.

Ramsden made the team with a ninth place finish in super G, a fourth in the super combined and a fifth place result in slalom. King earned a silver medal in super G, was sixth in the super combined and placed fourth in the giant slalom.

Other Whistler skiers also cracked the top 15 at the nationals.

Logan Pehota was 11 th in the boys' super G, while Charley Field was eighth for the women. Charlie Renzoni was seventh in the super combined. Brodie Seger was seventh in the men's giant slalom.

"I couldn't believe it when they called my name, that I came in third," said King of her selection to Team Canada. "I can't wait for the Whistler Cup now. I didn't think I could do it, but I did."

The Whistler Cup includes both K1 (ages 11 and 12) and K2 (ages 13 and 14) athletes. Roughly 400 skiers from upwards of 20 nations are expected to take part.

While the top athletes from the provincial series went to Ontario, other members of the Whistler Mountain Ski Club traveled to Revelstoke for the Teck K2 Westerns.

In the opening giant slalom Elianne Taillefer was second in the women's race, a third of a second back of the top spot. Teammate Rachel Vanderveen placed 10 th and Alexandra Perry 14 th .

For the men, Jack Iles placed ninth and Marc Leroux 14 th .

In the first slalom Ben Bethune was 10 th on the men's side, while Elizabeth Kepl was sixth for the women.

Elianne Taillefer was sixth in the second women's slalom.
