Members of the Squamish Wolfpack will be glad to see the end of October, with just two wins in eight games.
On Friday, the Wolfpack hosted the Grandview Steelers at Meadow Park Sports Centre, losing 3-2 on a late third period goal.
The Wolfpack took the lead in the first period with Cole Briggs scoring on the power play five minutes in. Dean Wilson and Brady Bjornson got the assists.
Grandview tied it up in the second period, when they peppered Wolfpack goalie Jordan Liem with 24 shots - almost half their 47 shots on the evening. The Wolfpack kept it close, despite taking only 28 shots all game.
In the third period the Wolf Pack took the lead 2-1 with an early goal from Cole Briggs, assisted by Ryan Niederkorn and Dean Wilson. Grandview evened it up on a power play, then took the lead with less than three minutes left.
There were a lot of penalties called in the first two periods, but just one, for roughing, in the third period. But that penalty ultimately cost the Wolf Pack the game.
On Saturday the Wolfpack returned to Brennan Park in Squamish and lost 6-1. Their lone goal was scored by Konrad Sander, assisted by Trevor Kang and Darcy Rail. They were out shot 42 to 30. On the bright side, the Wolfpack's penalty kill was perfect all evening although its own power play was 0-4.
Overall, the Wolfpack has been better through the month than the standings reflect. They have won two games out of the first eight, and three of their losses were by one goal.
They have scored some 20 goals, averaging 2.5 goals per game, while allowing 29 goals, or 3.6 goals per game.
Still, Squamish heads into the weekend with just eight points, 11 back of the Grandview Steelers in their division.
The Wolfpack has two games remaining in October. On Saturday, Oct. 30, Squamish will be hosting Grandview at 7:15 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.
On Halloween, the Wolfpack will be travelling to North Delta.
No further games are planned for Whistler this season, although there is always a chance that a game might be rescheduled for Meadow Park.
