A woman was rattled May 30 by what she claimed was a gunshot that came a little too close for comfort on a remote stretch of a Pemberton road.
The complainant told police she was walking near the 72-kilometre mark of the In-SHUK-ch Forest Service Road when she heard a gun fire, and then "saw the ground dust up near her," RCMP Staff Sgt. Steve LeClair said.
She also told officers she was near an old, abandoned car that had been used as a firing target in the past. Police attended and found the vehicle "surrounded by spent shells and riddled with bullet holes," noted LeClair.
"It's suspected that somebody was shooting at that vehicle and one of the bullets came close to the complainant."
Mounties have since made arrangements to remove the abandoned car.
Off-duty cop recovers stolen motorcycle
An off-duty officer with a keen eye for detail is responsible for the return of a motorcycle to its owner that had been reported stolen only hours earlier.
On May 26, Whistler RCMP received a report that a 2008 dual-sport motorcycle had been taken from in front of a home on Rainbow Drive.
Mounties spoke to residents in the neighbourhood and conducted patrols, but turned up no clues.
By a stroke of luck, however, the officer who filed the report happened to notice the motorbike hidden in some trees while cycling home after his shift behind the Whistler Secondary School.
"It appears that somebody had put the bike in some bushes and attempted to conceal it," said LeClair.
The motorcycle was eventually returned to its relieved owner.
Coquitlam man swears at cop before being found with drugs
A Coquitlam man is probably reconsidering swearing at a Whistler officer after he was subsequently arrested and found with drugs on him.
In the early hours of May 31, police were on foot patrol in the village when they observed two males "arguing aggressively," police said.
Cops stepped in before a fight ensued, at which point the 25-year-old man "uttered an extremely rude expletive" at one of the officers, LeClair said.
The suspect was arrested for causing a disturbance, and a search of his person uncovered two bags of white powder. The man informed police it was ketamine.
He now also faces drug possession charges, and was released with a promise to appear in court.
Man reported taking suspicious photos of children at Lost Lake Park
A local woman hoping to enjoy some downtime at Lost Lake on May 30 was disturbed to find a man who she believed was snapping pictures of children playing in the park.
The complainant told RCMP that she observed the man "doing strange weightlifting exercises in the water and making strange noises," before appearing to discretely pull out his camera and point it in the direction of several children playing on the shore.
He was described as being six feet tall, Caucasian, with a slim build and light brown, receding hair.
Police conducted patrols of the area but the man was not located.
LeClair noted that no obvious offence was committed, but said officers would still like to speak with the male to determine his intentions.
