WORCA bike swap breaks records

The Whistler Off Road Cycling Association’s annual bike swap went off without a hitch last weekend, despite a change in venue from Whistler Village to the Creekside Base.

Some 15 volunteers working with WORCA helped to sell more than 400 items, including several dozen used bikes, worth a total of $46,000.

That is a new record for the annual event, which is a fundraiser for WORCA’s youth programs.

The youth programs will receive $5,500 this year towards WORCA’s dirt camps, the WORCA Bucks program, and a new coaching program to be held during weekly Loonie Race events.

WORCA’s Loonie Race season kicks off officially on Thursday, May 6. WORCA and the Riverside Junction Café are sponsoring the first of 20 events on the calendar this year.

The Al Grey Memorial race will start and finish in Riverside Campground, using Lost Lake trails.

Membership sign-up will be available, so get there early to avoid waiting in line.
