Words of Art puts poetry on the walls

Poetry and coffee houses are a classic combination, one that Moguls Coffee House manager Lori Edwards is happy to revive.

Edwards is accepting original poetry submissions until the end of March for the cafe’s Words of Art contest.

Entrants must provide Edwards with two copies of their work – one including their name and contact information, one without. The anonymous versions will be displayed on the walls at Moguls throughout the month of April.

Customers will be encouraged to vote for their favourite poems. At the end of the month, the votes will be tabulated to produce a short list of semi-finalists, out of which a winner will be chosen by a panel of judges.

There will be a youth category for entrants aged 8 to 15.

It will be the first poetry contest hosted by the local coffee house.

"We usually have an ‘artist of the month,’ and I just decided that poetry is also a work of art," Edwards explained.
