world cup parties

The first party of the Hongkong Bank Whistler Ski Classic takes place Sunday at Dusty’s, followed by a national ski team fund-raiser Nov. 26 at Buffalo Bill’s. Sunday night’s party is open to anyone who wants to meet members of the Canadian Alpine Ski team and/or support the Weasel Workers. While the Nov. 23 party at Dusty’s will feature Brian Stemmle, Cary Mullen, Edi Podivinsky and others, it’s really about thanking the Weasel Workers who prepare the race course for the World Cup races. Entrance to the party is donation of a prize of at least $50 value, or cash. The cash will be used to buy more items, which will be given away as door prizes to the Weasel Workers at a post-race appreciation party. While national ski team members will be on hand to support the Weasels Sunday, Weasels and non-Weasels will be turning out Wednesday to support the ski racers. The second annual fund-raiser for the national team gets underway at 7 p.m. with a silent auction of products and services contributed by supporters of the Canadian Alpine Ski Team. Following the auction members of the team will be participating in a fashion parade. Rumour has it Rob Boyd will be modelling something chic. After the auction and fashion show, Doug and the Slugs take the stage. The national team fund-raiser is organized by Wild Willies Ski Club, which is seeking donations for auction from Whistler businesses. Call Bill Lamond at 938-8036 if you’d like to contribute. Tickets to the Willies-Bill’s bash are $20, and available from either Wild Bill or Buffalo Willy. On Thursday, Nov. 27, the Hongkong Bank Whistler Ski Classic festival kicks into high gear with a street party in the village, beginning at 6 p.m. The party is open to adults and children and culminates with fireworks at 9 p.m. For a complete list of festival activities seen the official program to the 1997 Hongkong Bank Whistler Ski Classic. All festival events will be held regardless of what happens on the race course.
