World Ski and Snowboard Festival seeking input

Open house planned for Nov. 20

Throughout the outdoor world, the TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival has become synonymous with Whistler.

“The biggest snow-sports party on the planet”, said the latest issue of Outside magazine, citing Whistler-Blackcomb as the epitome of big-mountain skiing, and a must-visit destination.

The producers of the TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival want to ensure that the global hype about the festival throws a glow that lights up the entire community.

“Even as we aspire for the festival to get better and better each year, we recognize that the only way to do that is to keep it real, to keep it truly connected to the community and the people of Whistler. That symbiosis is vital to the success of the festival… It belongs to the community, and it’s important that it be a true reflection of the people and core culture of Whistler,” says festival Managing Director Sue Eckersley.

“Whistler sets the bar for the resort and snowsports world because of the people here. There’s no way the festival could have the impact it does without the support of the entire community.”

To continue to strengthen that community network, the festival organizers plan to host a community input session on Nov. 20th, at the TELUS Whistler Conference Centre, in the Fitzsimons Rooms. The focus of the session will be the festival’s communications and marketing strategy (Session One, 10 a.m.-noon) and the 2008 Events Program (Session Two, 2 p.m.-5 p.m.). Refreshments will be provided, including all the Energy drinks a person can consume (up to the recommended daily limits).

The purpose of the community input session is to provide a feedback loop for community members, and to give the festival organizers a chance to provide insight into the festival’s ambition to continue to make Whistler the place to be in April.

Those unable to attend are welcome to submit any input for the 2008 TWSSF by emailing info@watermarkinc.ca , and indicating “2008 TWSSF Input” in the subject line.

The 2008 TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival will take place April 11-20.
