The Whistler Resort Association recently announced two new appointments. Doug Stackhouse is the new director of building operations for the Whistler Resort Association. Stackhouse was formerly with the Delta Whistler Resort and Blackcomb Mountain. At the Delta, he held the position of director of rooms quality and successfully oversaw a $2 million room renovation project. At Blackcomb Mountain, Stackhouse was the building and project manager. Stackhouse will be the project manager for the refurbishing of the Whistler Conference Centre in 1999 and 2000. The WRA is currently awaiting design proposals from architectural firms for renovating the conference centre. The facility needs to be brought up to date both in terms of communications capabilities and overall design, now that there are alternative conference facilities in Whistler. The roof also needs replacing. The Whistler Resort Association has also announced the appointment of Patrick Bowers as the new director of golf for the Whistler Golf Club. Bowers was formerly the director of golf at Horseshoe Resort in Barrie, Ontario. In his former position, Bowers was directly responsible for the operation of the Horseshoe Resort Course, the Highlands Golf Course and Practice Facility. Under his guidance the Horseshoe Gold Course placed among the Top 25 Canadian Resort Courses in Golf Course Ranking Magazine. He also secured a ranking for the Horseshoe Resort Course in the "Top 100 Women Friendly Golf Courses" in Golf for Women Magazine, only one of four courses in Canada to achieve this ranking. Bowers has extensive experience in developing programs for conference and corporate golf. He is a Class A head professional and is certified to the highest level of CPGA teaching certification. Under his leadership, the Whistler Golf Club hopes to increase its prominence and prestige as a premier golf destination. The director of golf is a new position created this year.
