Writers Fest wraps, reports jump in attendance

After three days of wordplay -- read, written and spoken - the ninth annual Whistler Readers and Writers Festival wrapped up last weekend and organizers are reporting some promising numbers. A total of 203 people participated in this year's festival, traveling from as far away as the UK to attend the event: that represents a 52 per cent increase in attendance over the 2009 festival.

Organizers received positive feedback from participants who were pleased with the intimacy of the festival, the calibre of the guest authors, the variety of the sessions offered for writers and readers, the practical nature of the workshops provided, and the organization of the events. Even the guest authors seemed impressed.

The event is organized by the Vicious Circle, and this year, they partnered with the Vancouver International Writers Festival, as well as many local businesses, to ensure the 2010 festival was a success.

"We couldn't have done this without the ongoing support of the RMOW and the Whistler Arts Council and the last minute financial injection of a number of corporate sponsors," festival organizer Stella Harvey said in a release.
