Budding authors can spend a weekend working on their latest creative writing piece at an intensive writer’s workshop in Whistler Sept. 19-21.
Organized by the Whistler Writers Group, workshop participants will work on their own projects and meet in group sessions for lectures and critique sessions.
Author Laisha Rosnau will be the featured guest lecturer. Workshop participants can discuss their work with Rosnau, who has had her poetry and short fiction published in literary journals and anthologies in Canada, the United States and Australia. The Sudden Weight of Snow is her first novel.
Rosneau has a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia, where she was the executive editor of Prism International. She has worked as a child-care worker landscaper, waitress, fruit-picker, journalist and editor.
There will be a panel discussion on "the writing life" on the first night of the workshop with novellists Steve Galloway and Timothy Taylor and readings of both of their works.
The panel discussion is open to all of the writing workshop participants and any interested individuals who wish to participate can join in for a fee of $10.
Preparatory works of fiction or non-fiction are required. Interested participants must submit an excerpt of their work with a maximum of 4,000 words by Sept. 10.
The work must contain the author’s name, working title and style of the story, for example, novel excerpt, children’s story, or non-fiction and must be double-spaced.
The workshop is limited to 12 participants and costs $140 for the weekend. Lunch on Saturday and Sunday is included in the cost.
The final date for payment and registration for the writer’s workshop is Sept. 1.
