WVSC on provincial series podiums

The Whistler Valley Snowboard Club sent a team to the Ripzone Provincial Snowboard Series at Big White last weekend, earning medals in every event.

The slopestyle competition took place on Friday. In the 12 and Under category, the WVSC’s Steven Kopyt, 11, of Maple Ridge was third overall.

Tamo Campos from North Vancouver, 14, was second in the 12-14 category, while Bryan Bowles, 13, of Halfmoon Bay was fourth.

In the 15-16 group, Hajime Takemura, 16, of Squamish and Japan was third.

In the men’s finals 16 and Under, Campos was second and Takemura fifth.

The halfpipe contest was cancelled on Saturday because of the weather conditions. Instead, competitors made the best of the pipe in an open jam format, competing for ribbons and prizes.

On Sunday, Kopyt was the only WVSC member to enter the snowboardcross, finishing third in his category.

Tour of Champions snowboardcross relocated

The Honda Element Tour of Champions announced this week that the snowboardcross event scheduled for Cypress Mountain will be relocated to Big White Ski Resort for the Feb. 12-13 weekend.

Members of the national team are expected to take part in the competition, which is sanctioned as a Nor Am event.
