Last Saturday, Oct. 23, the Whistler boys Under-11 team played well against a strong Squamish team.
Squamish was first on the board, but Whistler answered back. Squamish took the lead again, but Whistler again tied it up heading into the second half. Everyone agreed that the score would have been higher for Squamish without the goaltending of Whistlers Chris Monroe.
The tit-for-tat continued in the second half, with Squamish scoring and Whistler once again answering back. After holding Squamish off until late in the second half, Squamish at last wore down the defence and put away two unanswered goals.
The goal scorers for Whistler were Mitchell Aikman with two and Jeremy Fairley.
The Under 6 and Under 7 players will wrap up their season this weekend at a tournament sponsored by Tim Hortons, which will provide jerseys, donuts and medals.
The older teams will continue to play until the weather conditions make it impossible. Players and parents should communicate with their coaches to get more information. There will also be an opportunity for indoor soccer this winter.
The spring soccer season will kick off in April of 2005, the exact date depending on the weather.
