Rob Brown

Rob Brown is 44 and is an award winning, 24-year long writer/director/photographer/producer/composer, and is the managing editor creating every edition of the Dawson Creek Mirror, Horizon News, and Pipeline News North.

He has been writing each day since 1993; and professionally for newspapers since 1998.

Likely Canada’s only writer with 300 million printed bylines, and more than a million printed bylines with individual newspapers each in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan.

He has 25 or so newspaper awards across western Canada, including a news story of year nods in both Alberta and Manitoba, two photo of year awards, back-to-back special section edition awards, plus nods for community reporting, arts writing awards, and more.

Brown is an Alberta 2005 Centennial Citizen of the Year, the 2017 Northern British Columbia Culture Ambassador, and is News Canada BC's only 2019 Bronze Quill Award winner for 20 years plus of journalism.

A 20-year writer/actor/producer/director of stage and film – he has 10 stage plays written and produced across western Canada.

Including - Casa Des Coffee (2007), Revolver 101 (runs in 2011, 2012, 2013), Penny Cash Wedding (2013), Los Angeles, 1983 (2013), PCP: Picketwire Community Park (2014), Colosseum (2017), A Cold North Night (2018).

In addition to his own work – Rob Brown has directed and produced 20 plus more vehicles of other people’s work since 2004.

Brown has on-set time with Robin Williams, Jojo, Barry Sonnenfeld, Bai Ling, Vinnie Jones, and more.

He and his daughter Blake appear in the 2020 Huey Lewis video “I Am There For You” saluting first responders and front line workers.

Brown has worked with Stephen King, Albert Pyun, Huey Lewis, as well as adapting King (5), William Shakespeare (7), Stephen Sondheim, Anthony Perkins, Roman Polanski, and more.

He has 2021/2022 interviews with Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Steve Hackett, voice of this generation Paul Carrack, Star Trek Picard’s Marc Bernardin, Pink Floyd’s Durga McBroom, members of the Marvel Universe, and more.

Brown has performed live at the University of Manitoba, the Royal Manitoba Museum, Manitoba Theatre Centre, SAIT, University of Calgary, the rooftop of the Medicine Hat Esplanade, Tumbleweed Theatre, and more.

He is a 2003 co-founder of Tumbleweed Theatre in Alberta. Which is still active today.

Also as a journalist - he has had a pair of decade long film review columns in 1998 to 2008, then again from 2012/now.

In 2022 his full-length movie – Sukunka – shot and produced in the BC South Peace region is now under consideration on the global film festival circuit, including Redford's Sundance, DeNiro's Tribeca, Toronto Film Week, and 20 or so more.

After all of the above – Brown in 2023 has two (or three) new podcasts debuting, (Peace Region Xposure!, Mirror Talks, and ‘Eh to Zed’) plus a show for Optik TV, as well as producing a second film in 2023, a television mini-series, and more.

Brown also has two books on the way – one on 30 years of writing, and a second on 25 years of film reviews, acting, and more.

Currently booking live speaking and performance dates throughout fall 2022 and all 2023/24.
