“I truly only bought a ticket because the KGH Foundation and the YMCA are such worthy causes. This feels like a win-win," Allen Davenport.

A B.C. healthcare worker has won the first Lake Life Lottery prize.

Allen Davenport, 58 won the inaugural lottery’s bonus prize – a 2022 Ford Mustang EcoBoost Convertible and a trip to Los Angeles or Phoenix.

Davenport, who works in health sciences for Island Health and Interior Health, received the keys to his prize convertible last week.

He is the first to win a prize through Lake Life Lottery, which runs until November 24 and will support physical, mental and social health initiatives by raising critical funds for Kelowna General Hospital Foundation and the YMCA of Southern Interior BC.

“I’m really excited to share these prizes with my family,” said Davenport.

“I truly only bought a ticket because the KGH Foundation and the YMCA are such worthy causes. This feels like a win-win.”

Davenport works for Island Health in Victoria and at Kelowna General Hospital when visiting family in the Okanagan several times a year.

As a perfusionist, he operates machines that support complex heart and lung procedures and surgeries.

He says sees first-hand the value of fundraising for patients and healthcare staff on a daily basis.

“Hospital foundations are instrumental in purchasing state-of-the-art equipment that allows us to meet the standard of care we strive for,” said Davenport. “And YMCA plays such a big role in helping patients regain their health through rehabilitation after surgery or other hospital procedures. The connection these charities have to overall community wellness is clear. Buying a ticket was an easy decision.”

“On behalf of the KGH Foundation and YMCA, I would like to congratulate Allen for this win,” said Allison Ramchuk, CEO of KGH Foundation.

“Knowing the stress hospitals have faced over the pandemic, it’s wonderful one of our hardworking B.C. healthcare employees will get to enjoy a new car and a warm vacation thanks to Lake Life Lottery.”

Lake Life Lottery prizes include a $1.75 million dream home in the award-winning Lakestone community. Built by Harmony Homes, the 2,788 square-foot home includes four bedrooms and four bathrooms.

Other prizes include getaways to New York, France, Italy and Hawaii and a 50/50 pot, with the chance to take home up to $750,000.

“Time is running out to get in on this chance to boost the health of your neighbours, family members and friends through two organizations committed to helping them thrive in every way,” said Allyson Graf, CEO of YMCA of Southern Interior BC.
