Daily COVID-19 cases tick up above 100, four dead

After three days of no deaths to report from COVID-19 in B.C. earlier this week, the virus has claimed four lives in the past 24 hours and daily cases have ticked up above 100.

There is also a new outbreak at a long-term care home.

In the last 24 hours, there have been 112 confirmed COVID-19 cases, and four deaths – two in the Interior Health Region, and one each in the Fraser and Vancouver Coastal health regions. It is the fourth consecutive day in which daily case numbers have risen over the previous day.

New cases in the past 24 hours break down according to the following health districts:

•Fraser Health, 30

•Vancouver Coastal Health, 15

•Interior Health, 59

•Northern Health, 3

•Island Health, 5 

The new outbreak at a long-term care home is at Holyrood Manor in the Fraser Health region. There is also an ongoing outbreak at Laurel Place at Surrey Memorial Hospital.

There are currently 603 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C, with 46 people in hospital and 17 in intensive care.

Of the 148,842 British Columbians who tested positive with COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic in the spring of 2020, 146,463 have recovered. A total of 1,767.British Columbians have died from the virus.

As for vaccination rates, 80.3% (3,723,154) of eligible people 12 years old or older in B.C. have been vaccinated,and  58.1% (2,692,024) are fully vaccinated with two doses of one of three different types of vaccines.

To date, the province has administered  6,422,503 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines.
