Alexander Trimble appeared in Vancouver provincial court June 8, charged with the murder of his brother.

Family members of a man charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of his brother sat crying in Vancouver provincial court June 8 as the accused made his first appearance before a judge.

The BC Prosecution Service June 6 approved the single charge against Alexander Trimble, 27, in connection with the death of Zachary Trimble, 23.

Alexander was arrested June 5 after Vancouver Police responded to reports of an assault at a home near Bruce Street and East 49th Avenue just before 3 a.m.

Police discovered a 23-year-old man badly injured outside the house. He later died from his injuries.

Alexander remains in custody at North Fraser Pretrial Centre.

Some 13 family members attended the hearing and saw Alexander on a video screen. They declined to comment on the case.

Judge Gregory Rideout explained what was happening in the courtroom to the family before and after the appearance.

Alexander is due back in court on June 22.
