NANAIMO — Police on Vancouver Island say a sailor who was reported missing last week has been located and is safe.

Nanaimo RCMP say an "outpouring of tips" helped find both the 30-year-old man and the 33-year-old woman he was travelling with.

The man had been reported missing by his family on Aug. 13, with police saying he and the woman were believed to have been sailing a yacht together.

Police had said they were last heard from on July 20 and there was concern for their well-being.

Then Mounties said on Sunday that the search for the man was continuing after the woman was found safe, along with the sailboat.

RCMP say both are now "safe and sound."
