One dead after 'targeted' shooting in Burnaby

A man died at the scene shortly after shots rang out in the 5500 block of Kingsway near Denbigh Avenue just after 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Homicide investigators were called to Burnaby Tuesday night after a man was gunned down in his vehicle on Kingsway.

Shots rang out in the 5500 block of Kingsway near Denbigh Avenue just after 10:30 p.m., according to a Burnaby RCMP news release Wednesday morning.

When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from serious gunshot wounds, the release said.

Police and first responders tried life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after.

"At this time, investigators believe the shooting was targeted and there are no further risks to the public from this incident," stated the news release.

Police have secured the scene and will remain in the area as the investigation continues.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken over the case and is looking for witnesses or anyone with dashcam video in the area of Kingsway and Denbigh Avenue between 9 and 11 p.m. Tuesday.
