UPDATE: The daughter of an Ottawa woman who was reported missing after travelling to Greater Victoria to meet someone she met online says she has been located.

Naomi Yamba said in a social media post on Tuesday that her mother, Patricia Nzuza, had been found. She did not provide any additional information and asked for privacy for the family.

Sidney/North Saanich RCMP had issued a missing-person alert on Monday, saying Nzuza’s family had been unable to contact her since she arrived at Victoria International Airport on April 15 and were worried about her well-being.

Original story

An Ottawa woman who flew to Victoria to meet someone she met online hasn’t been seen or heard from in a week and her family is concerned.

Patricia Nzuza is the subject of a missing-person file opened by Sidney RCMP, said her daughter Naomi Yamba.

“It’s very unlike her not to message or contact us and my sister and I are very worried,” Yamba said Monday in an interview.

She said her family does not have any information about the online friend or the nature of their relationship. Since Nzuza’s arrival, the daughters have been unable to locate or contact her.

“Her phone is off, which is unlike her,” said Yamba.

She said Sidney RCMP have video footage of Nzuza arriving at Victoria International Airport and boarding a bus outside the terminal a week ago, but the trail goes cold from there.

She said her mother is in her mid-50s.

Yamba said the family used to live in Vancouver, but has since moved to Toronto, Montreal and, most recently, Ottawa.

“I’m asking for help. If you’re in B.C, please keep an eye out and let me know if you see her or have any information at all. We miss you mom,” Yamba said in a social media post.

Anyone who has seen or heard from Nzuza is asked to call the Sidney RCMP and cite missing person’s file 2023-1808.

Yamba is urging anyone with any information, no matter how small, to contact the police immediately.

That includes anyone who may have come into contact with Nzuza on the plane or in the airport, or who has seen Nzuza since her arrival in Victoria.
