An RCMP police dog named Halla is credited with finding a missing woman who was suffering from mild hypothermia.

The 58-year-old Duncan woman became disoriented during a cold and foggy evening walk on Wednesday.

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP Duncan got a call just after 5 a.m., after the woman’s roommate became concerned that she had not returned home from an evening walk the night before.

RCMP unleashed police service dog Halla and her human handler, and alerted local search and rescue teams.

After a 90-minute search, Halla found the woman in an open field near Westholme Road in Duncan.

“Our police dog services are an invaluable asset to our operations, including searches for missing persons,” said Cpl. Alex Bérubé, spokesman for the B.C. RCMP.

The woman was transported to hospital by ambulance for a medical assessment.
