Vancouver firefighters rescued an individual who was trapped inside of a vehicle after it fell three flights down an elevator shaft at an Audi dealership in Vancouver.

Vancouver Fire and Rescue Assistant Chief Brian Bertuzzi was in command of the scene at the Audi dealership on West 3rd Avenue. He tells Vancouver Is Awesome in a phone interview that the special operations team worked with the BC Emergency Health Services to rescue an Audi employee who was trapped inside of a vehicle after it fell three flights down an elevator shaft.

"We're not sure how it happened. The car went down the elevator shaft which was in the garage," says Bertuzzi.

Cars are on different floors and a car was reportedly being down to ground level. That said, VFRS won't speculate as to what exactly happened, because they arrived after the car fell down the elevator, explains Bertuzzi.

Individual conscious after car falls three flights

"Fortunately it appeared that the person who was rescued from the vehicle did not sustain serious injuries," adds Bertuzzi, noting that they were conscious after the incident. However, he can't comment on the individual's current condition because they were transferred to BC Ambulance.

WorkSafeBC spokesperson Alexandra Skinner tells V.I.A. that an officer was sent to the site today and more information will be available soon.

V.I.A. has reached out to Audi Canada for comment.
