The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) is investigating the city's third murder of the year.

This morning, March 17, police were called to the Arco Hotel at Pender and Abbott streets in the Downtown Eastside. Once on the scene they found a woman with a gunshot wound.

"She was taken to hospital, but later died," state the VPD in a press release, adding that she isn't being identified at this time.

No suspects were at the scene when police arrived, it's believed they fled before officers got there.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the VPD's Homicide Unit at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
