A Castlegar nurse has agreed to a voluntary suspension of her nursing registration after it was discovered she created fake COVID-19 vaccine cards.

The decision was made public Friday as part of a consent agreement between the registered nurse, Sarah Jones, and the BC College of Nurses and Midwives.

In its statement, the college says an inquiry committee approved the agreement to "address professional misconduct that occurred in 2021 arising from the use of her position, experience, credibility in public health and her knowledge of the vaccination system to effect the fraudulent creation of four vaccine cards.

"The registrant presented varied versions of events to the employer, witnesses and the regulator, and her conduct was deemed a marked ethical departure from the conduct expected of a nurse."

As a result, Jones agreed to a suspension of her nursing registration for six months and remedial education in professional ethics.
