Barn Dance features local opener

The 11 th Annual Pemberton Barn Dance promises to rip up the valley on Saturday, July 22.

The 11 th Annual Pemberton Barn Dance promises to rip up the valley on Saturday, July 22. Held at the Roothouse on Pemberton Meadows Road, the evening features two great country bands: last year’s headliner, Appaloosa, and local country-rockers Hay Fever, headed up by former councilor/Pemberton Folk Festival organizer Richard Doucette.

"Don’t worry if you don’t have a cowboy hat, we’ll be selling them on site," said Lizz Kelly, marketing coordinator.

This year, organizers are expecting to attract between 1,200 and 1,500 revelers. To stem drinking and driving, shuttle service is available in both Whistler and Pemberton. Shuttles will leave from the Telus Conference Centre at 7, 8 and 9 p.m., returning at 1:30 and 2 a.m. Round trip is $10. The Pemberton shuttle costs $5 and departs from the Legion.

Kelly warns that the event always sells out. Early bird tickets are $25, and price rises to $30 after July 15. In Whistler, tickets are available at The Whistler Question office, while in Pemberton tickets can be purchased at Paperworks, Pemberton Trading Company, Pemberton Esso, Pemberton Valley Supermarket, Royal Canadian Legion.

Proceeds fund the activities of the Pemberton Rotary Club, Lion’s Club, Chamber of Commerce and Legion.
