Rebecca Mason and Ira Pettle of Laugh Out LIVE have joined up with the Nourish Wellness Series.
According to Laugh Out LIVE's website, their upcoming June 14 workshop "Presence Through Play" will guide participants "through a series of fun ice-breakers, group improv games, and joy-sparking activities." No experience is required.
"We connected with the Nourish Wellness Series because we are passionate about the fact that laughter is the best medicine," Mason says. "What we see when we put on comedy shows and workshops is people coming together, connecting, bonding with others, laughing and having moments of joy and playfulness. They leave the workshops with new friends. We believe that laughter and comedy holds a place in the mental health world, and so it was a no-brainer for us.
"There will be some improv fundamentals through this exercise, but you don't have to have an interest in improv. You don't have to have a history or a desire to act or be on stage. We can plan ourselves into a tailspin, especially when it comes to mental health, and in improv: what we're asking people to do is to listen and trust. You start to step away from the stress of pre-planning. You start to laugh at what transpires, instead of judging what transpires."
Tourism Whistler events manager Bree Eagles adds that Nourish is "really excited" to add Laugh Out LIVE to its schedule, offering a unique spin on wellness.
"Presence Through Play" will be held at the Point Artist-Run Centre (PARC) with 90-minute sessions at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Click here to learn more.
