Reel looks at Transamerica

Desperate housewife turned man turned woman

The Whistler Film Festival’s Reel Alternatives Independent Film Series wraps up April with a Golden Globe-winning performance from Felicity Huffman of Desperate Housewives , starring in Transamerica Wednesday, April 26 at 7 and 9:15 p.m. at Village 8 Cinema.

The Academy Award-nominated actress plays the role of a trans-gendered parent who reconnects with a son he/she didn’t know about.

The film pivots on the final step of Bree (Huffman) originally born Stanley, who is about to make the final step of becoming the woman Stanley has always wanted to be until Bree finds out about his/her 17-year-old son. Afraid to tell the rebellious teenager the truth, Bree embarks on a journey with the boy that will change both of their lives forever.

The both funny and touching film was given "2 Thumbs Up!" by Roger Ebert and Richard Roeper.

The next film slated for the Reel series is the Sundance Festival Grand Jury Prize winner Why We Fight , May 3 at the Village 8 Cinema.

Purchase a Reel Alternatives membership for $4 and save $2 on films. Tickets are $6.50 for members and $8.50 for non-members.
