For the first time, bear researcher Michael Allen is displaying images of Whistler black bears in a photo exhibit at MY Millennium Place for the month of May.
An artist reception will be held Thursday, May 17 at 7 p.m. when guests can meet the photographer and learn more about our bear population. The showcase illustrates the individuality of each bear with Allen’s images capturing both expression and lifestyle. Don’t miss this free event.

Do you know how many days left to the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games?
As of Saturday, May 19, there will be exactly 1,000 days. That’s 24,000 hours or 86,400,000 seconds. Whatever it is, it is cause to celebrate.
Whistler 2010 Information Centre officials are celebrating with the 1,000 Days to Go event on Saturday at the centre located across from Esquire’s Coffee House.
The family-oriented celebration invites guests and residents alike to participate in sport demos, meet and mingle with Canada’s best athletes and dance to the fiddling fun of the Jocelyn Band from Squamish.
Shake hands with Paralympic alpine racer Brad Lennea, Olympic snowboarder Dominique Vallee and freestyle skier Chris Wong. These local heroes will be recounting their experiences, sign autographs and share their 2010 dreams from 1 to 4 p.m.
Cake cutting will begin at 1 p.m. with “the games” running from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Also take the time to congratulate VANOC’s newest team player, Whistler’s Kristen Robinson was recently selected as 2010 manager of communications for Whistler.
Sea to Sky theatre company takes trophy case
Between Shifts Theatre, a non-profit theatre troupe made up of thespian talent from the Sea to Sky corridor, swept award after award at the North Shore Zone Festival.
“The group really took home the hardware,” said a very pleased Kathy Daniels, who won Best Supporting Actress.
The award was one of seven that honoured their presentation of Unity 1918 earlier this month at Presentation House Theatre in North Vancouver.
Other accolades included Best Director for Susanna Uchatius, Best Set Design for Mike Johnston, Mike Hewitt was honoured for Best Lighting Design, Lynn Wong for Best Costumes, Travis Woods for Best Supporting Actor, and Mike Johnston, Nancy Norman and Lise Hamilton for the People’s Choice Award for Best Overall Design.
The troupe is also being considered for the Workshop Play Award, which would send the group to Kamloops to perform on the mainstage in July.
