The Whistler Film Festival (WFF) has announced six Canadian titles set to screen at this year's event, running from Nov. 30 to Dec. 4 in-person and Dec. 5 to Jan. 2, 2023 online.

They include:

  • The Western Canada premiere of Broken Angel, directed by Jules Arita Koostachin, about a woman named Angel who is forced to flee an abusive partner.
  • The world premiere of Colorblind, directed by Mostafa Keshvari. Shot on Granville Island the film follows a colourblind Black artist who moves with her son to a new neighbourhood where they're forced to see who some people really are.
  • The world premiere of Exile, directed by Jason James, WFF alumni, about a man who's about to be released from prison for a fatal drunk driving accident when he receives a death threat from the victim's family and escapes into exile.
  • The Canadian premiere of [email protected], directed by another WFF alumni Carl Bessai, which looks at contemporary culture’s obsession with image and its dependence on technology.
  • The Canadian premiere of Lissa's Trip, directed by Jeffery Lando, about a former child star who is trying to land an audition, despite taking way too much acid.
  • The Western Canadian premiere of Soft Spoken Weepy Cult Child, directed by Irina Lord, in which a teenage girl must ingratiate herself into her cult-following mother's care before her grandmother dies.

"The Whistler Film Festival is internationally known as a festival that amplifies diverse voices and spotlights new regional, national, and international cinematic talent. We’re proud to kick off the countdown to the fest by highlighting some of the amazing Canadian filmmakers who are featured this year,” says Angela Heck, WFF executive director. “There is an insatiable need for stories from around the globe and this festival plays a pivotal role in supporting top-notch talent while offering connections to the industry through our Content Summit and Talent Programs."

The festival's full lineup will be announced on Nov. 2.
