BC AdventureSmart and Ducks Unlimited Canada are hosting a webinar this weekend to increase awareness about winter wilderness safety, and support wetlands conservation efforts while they're at it.

Looking to brush up on your snow safety knowledge before heading into the backcountry in 2022?

BC AdventureSmart and Ducks Unlimited British Columbia have partnered to host a virtual "Snow Safety-Backcountry" event via Zoom this Sunday, Jan. 16.

The webinar aims to increase awarenessfor backcountry explorers of all skill levelsabout winter wilderness safety.

Topics covered in the 90-minute talk will include identifying winter hazards, preparing a trip plan, emergency survival, necessary equipment to bring with you into the backcountry, and more, all in an effort to save lives and help reduce the number and severity of search and rescue callouts across B.C. this winter.

The Zoom presentation is part of Ducks Unlimited Canada's (DUC) new Outdoor Event Series. "Part of our role as conservationists is to pass on what we have learned to others," the organization explains on its website. "That is why DUC has partnered with conservation and outdoor experts to share our knowledge and skills with you— and have some fun while we do it!"

The virtual event takes place Sunday, Jan. 16 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $35 each for non-members, and include a DUC membership, while tickets for current members are $15. Registration is available online, HERE

All proceeds from registration fees will go towards supporting DUC's conservation initiatives for wetlands and grasslands across the country.
