Environment Canada has announced a special weather statement in effect for Whistler on Friday, Sept. 17.
Heavy rain in the range of 30 to 50 millimetres is expected throughout the day, with potential for more in some areas.
According to the statement, the heaviest rain is expected to occur over Howe Sound and the North Shore mountains, but the statement is also in effect for the Sunshine Coast, East Vancouver Island, Metro Vancouver, Fraser Valley and Whistler.
“A robust frontal system will cross the B.C. South Coast Friday,” read the statement. “Rain will begin late overnight Thursday and will intensify during the day Friday. The system will move through, and rain will ease Friday night.”
Other risks include strong winds which are possible Friday afternoon and into the evening.
Environment Canada urges people to consider clearing leaves and debris from drainage areas as the amount of rain expected could cause flooding in some areas.
