After an extended hiatus from 2020 through 2023, Whistler's Canada Day parade returned in a reimagined form in 2024, with community groups assembling on short notice for a foot- and pedal-powered parade through Whistler Village on July 1.
Whistler's Community Parade, as it has been coined, is back in 2025, and community groups, clubs and businesses are encouraged to join the fun.
The parade is walking friendly, with no motorized vehicles permitted.
"We encourage participants to explore alternative modes of propulsion, such as pedal-powered floats or floats pulled by electric bicycles, to add an element of eco-friendliness to their entries. We also do not require that participants enter a float," reads a post on the Resort Municipality of Whistler website. "You can enter as a walking group and wear costumes or your group's special attire, do something engaging for spectators, or get creative!"
Each float entry will also be entered into a prize draw.
Applicants are asked to follow these rules:
-
No entries will be permitted advocating, opposing, or depicting political, religious, or social issues, or that in the opinion of the parade coordinator do not meet the objectives of the parade.
-
Entries must align with the spirit of the event.
-
All participants must adhere to safety guidelines.
-
Offensive or inappropriate content will not be tolerated.
-
The organizers reserve the right to reject any entry not meeting these criteria.
-
Parade participants must be 18 years of age, unless accompanied by an adult/guardian.
-
Participants are not to be under the influence of alcohol, or drugs.
-
Animal entries: All dogs must remain on leash, with necessary cleanup equipment accompanying each entry.
-
Music: Family-friendly tunes played at a moderate volume, free from explicit language or inappropriate content. Acceptable noise levels will be determined by the Parade Officials and any requests to adjust sound levels must be adhered to.
-
Due to safety considerations, throwing any items including candy, balloons, etc. from floats will not be allowed. No soliciting of money is permitted during the parade.
-
All bicyclists, skateboarders, rollerbladers/in-line skaters, and scooters in the parade MUST wear helmets.
The cutoff to apply for this year's parade is June 13.
