Vancouver Coastal Health’s (VCH) annual Beyond the Blues mental health awareness event will take place in both Whistler and Pemberton this week.

All are invited to take part in the events, which will be held in Whistler on Wednesday, Oct. 6 (outside Fresh St. Market from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and in Pemberton on Thursday, Oct. 7 (outside Pemberton Valley Supermarket from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.).

The events are free, anonymous, confidential and walk-in.

VCH clinicians and peer support workers from Whistler Mental Health and Substance Use Services, Sea to Sky Community Services and Whistler Community Services Society will be on hand to speak with attendees.

“Anyone can benefit from attending,” said Emily Grant, consumer initiatives support worker with Sea to Sky Mental Health and Substance Use Services, in a release. “There will be professionals on hand to answer questions, provide information, and help people in supporting their own mental health and knowing who to reach out to when they need help.”

According to VCH, 37 per cent of British Columbians reported a decline in their mental health since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, with youth and young adults being disproportionately affected.
