No injuries were reported in connection to a fire that caused major damage to a home in Cheakamus Crossing Tuesday morning, Dec. 5, confirmed the Whistler Fire Rescue Service (WFRS).

in a release Wednesday afternoon, the fire department said it responded in the late morning to a report of a townhouse on fire in the 1300 block of Cloudburst Drive. Firefighters from all three local fire halls responded, bringing three fire trucks to the southern neighbourhood. Once on the scene, crews confirmed smoke showing from the roofline of the two-storey complex.

"Firefighters made entry into the home and were able to contain the fire to the kitchen area on the main level; however the home sustained significant smoke damage throughout," the release explained.

No occupants were in the home at the time.

While the fire remains under investigation, it does not appear suspicious, the WFRS said.

"Whistler Fire Rescue would like to remind residents and visitors to the make sure they keep combustible materials away from stove tops and to ensure they have working smoke alarms in the home," the release concluded.
