Pemberton trails back with a bang after successful expo

Pemberton Valley Trails Association gave locals the tools they needed to repair local trails

The Pemberton Valley Trails Association (PVTA) had its annual trail expo and free pancake morning on April 6. Members and volunteers alike worked hard to get the trails ready for action this season. All ages were welcome at the event, with tools provided by the association.

Pemberton Valley Supermarket, Pemberton Valley Coffee Co. and Sabre Rentals Inc sponsored supplies for the highly-anticipated breakfast at the Bike Co parking lot. It was the first Trail Day of 10 planned for 2024.

Kailey Morin, director of communications for the PVTA, said the event draws their largest crowd year on year.

“It’s typically the kick-off to the season,” she said. “This year the season started early because of the mild weather. The idea is to bring everyone who enjoys the trails together on one day and have some breakfast. We had all these booths set up with all these different groups so people could get to know who’s here and what they do.”

Attendees were then handed their tools and split up into groups to get the dirty work done.

“We provided the tools,” said Morin. “There were different leaders chosen to take different groups to trails around the community that needed some love. There were about 50 people who left from the breakfast and joined us for that.”

The event is a perfect example of Pemberton’s great community spirit and the love locals have for the great trails surrounding them. Local company, Murphy Construction Ltd sponsored the trail work.

“It’s really neat to see runners, hikers, mountain bikers, horse riders and dirt bikers come together for one day and then head out together to look after the trails,” said Morin.

The volunteers then headed to the Trail Jams fundraiser in the Legion, with all proceeds raised going straight to PVTA.
