PHOTOS: Car driven into Whistler creek extricated with crane

No word yet on status of driver

A vehicle that was driven into Whistler's Fitzsimmons Creek on Friday, June 10 has been extricated by rescue crews.

In an email Friday, a spokesperson with the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) confirmed that a swiftwater rescue technician had been hired to work with the municipality and the Whistler Fire Rescue Service to remove the vehicle with a crane.

"Removal by crane reduces the chance of additional damage to the vehicle, which could lead contaminants into the creek," the spokesperson continued.

Photos and video posted to local social media showed the tricky removal process. It's unclear exactly how the car wound up in the creek or the status of the driver. Pique has asked the Whistler RCMP for more information and we'll update this post when we hear back.
