Photos: Japanese festival celebrates cherry blossom season at the Nikkei Centre

Festivities were in full bloom, as the centre hosted two days of workshops and events this weekend.

The Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Centre hosted a Month of O-Hanami, celebrating the cherry blossom season with programming throughout April.

Saturday, April 27 featured a kimono dressing demonstration with skilled assistants, under the guidance of Fumiko Horan (kimono technician for Shōgun), dressing models in kimono. A traditional Japanese wrapping cloths session was also held, as well as a Soran (traditional group) dance performed by Gladstone students and a samurai sword training workshop.

The festival concludes Sunday, April 28, with a Sakura-themed Kumikō (incense ceremonies) and a slide lecture sharing insights into the cultural significance of cherry blossoms (sakura).
