Police watchdog investigating injury to man after Whistler RCMP took him into custody

B.C.’s civilian-led police watchdog is investigating a police incident last month after a man arrested by Whistler RCMP was injured, according to a release.

The Independent Investigations Office of BC said that the information provided by Mounties indicates that on Aug. 25 at approximately 4:30 p.m., police responded to a disturbance at a residence in the 4800 block of Spearhead Drive, where they took a man into custody.

Later that evening, police reportedly became aware that the man had sustained an injury.

The IIO was advised of the incident the following and has begun its investigation.

The agency investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
