The Squamish–Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) has issued an evacuation alert for several homes along Pemberton Portage road in the Poole Creek and Gates Lake area after a sudden surge from Place Glacier’s sub‑glacial lake flooded valley streams
Residents at these addresses—8902 through 9006 Pemberton Portage Rd, several Poole Creek Rd properties (2201 through 2235) and plus adjacent lots—must be ready to leave at a moment’s notice if authorities escalate to an evacuation order. The full list of properties under evacuation alert is available on the SLRD’s website.
The SLRD is warning of possible flooding and debris flows, as well as unstable streambanks and sediment. Anyone who spots flooding to properties is asked contact the SLRD Emergency Centre at 604‑384‑7357.
In the event of a proper evacuation order, preparation is key. Sign up with the provincial Emergency Support Services to access basic supports like accommodation, food, clothing and other temporary resources. The SLRD advises packing essential items—ID, medication, and pets included—and scouting ahead for meeting spots. And should you need transport help during an evacuation, contact the SLRD at 604-384-7357.
The Regional District has asked residents to wait until a proper evacuation order has been issued before leaving their properties.
