Power outage reported for thousands of Whistler residents

BC Hydro lists suspected cause as ‘equipment failure’

Update 10:30 a.m.: According to BC Hydro, power is now restored for all but about 60 customers.

Update 9:30 a.m.: Crews are on site, and BC Hydro now estimates that about 800 people are still without power.

More than 2,000 Whistler residents are without power this morning, according to BC Hydro.

An outage in the Nesters area is reportedly affecting 2,218 customers. A crew is assigned, and BC Hydro lists the suspected cause of the outage as "equipment failure." The cause was originally listed as "fire."

That outage is impacting residents south of Nesters Road, north of Sunridge Drive, west of Lorimer Road, and east of Alta Lake Road.

Meanwhile, a second outage is reportedly impacting a small handful of customers in Spruce Grove. No crew has been assigned.

There is currently no estimate for when power will be restored.
